Journal MondoMor's Journal: Dupes 3

I take back what I said in a previous journal entry (which was posted in threads by a couple of ACs. Thanks!) where I stated that michael doesn't post dupes.

He does.

Which is nice, because now there's no need to qualify the statement, "Slashdot editors are biased, hypocritical idiots who are incapable of doing a simple search for duplicate stories."

It also means michael has zero redeeming qualities.

Can you imagine PAYING for Slashdot? I suppose if you share the same narrow mind that CmdrTaco and buddies have, it's a fantastic site.

Taco and company don't give a flip about the users; it is the stories, they say, that makes the site "grate."

This is why you must pay, so you don't have to deal with the hassle of checking out Wired, Google News, Cnet, NYTimes, etc. on your own time. This way it is all in one place, ready for the plucking. Heck, they even built-in the feature where you accidentally surf to the same story again and again (some less-educated people call them "dupes")! Oh, and the speeling and grammar mis-takes are simply local twists on national/worldwide stories.

What more do you want?! PAY NOW!

  • ...and its useless. half the promised features in the faq don't work (e.x. viewing older comments), and i still haven't gotten a response to my e-mail questioning about this that i sent a week ago.

    good times...
  • I don't really mind that occasionally dupes are posted. Here's why:

    1) I don't read Slashdot every single day of every single week. Therefore, sometimes I miss interesting stories.

    2) Some stories, though they have been posted before, continue to incite productive and interesting discussion. If this happens, then who cares if it's a dupe.

In fact, I find pure dupes less annoying than countless "saga" stories. For example, every word that Hillary Rosen utters was a /. story for a while.

Maybe they should search and include links to the older stories on the same topic, but that might have some unintended consequences.

The one day you'd sell your soul for something, souls are a glut.
