Journal mrjive's Journal: IBM WebSphere sucks 3

After 4 months of learning how to operate and develop with this "supposed" J2EE container, I've come to the conclusion that it sucks.

  1. Spontaneous naming context errors
  2. Inability to cluster properly under linux
  3. Godawful swing-drawn admin console
  4. Necessity of a "special" IBM JDK
  5. DB2
  6. I'm sure there are more reasons that are just escaping me right now.

The bottom line is that IBM can suck it.

IBM WebSphere sucks

  • Have you considered using MySQL? I hear that's robust and stable for even the largest databases. eBay runs it on a 486 in Meg Whitman's garage. Amazon uses it on a first generation Pentium housed in dorms at U Washington!

    Good luck!
    • Not an option. WAS is a customer requirement.

We use JBoss/Postgres for development, which works flawlessly. It's when we try and port the portable languages (sql and java) to IBM products that we run into trouble.
