Otter's Journal: Queen's Brian May Finally Completes Astrophysics PhD

Imperial College astrophysics grad student Brian May is about to defend his thesis Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud after a hiatus of several decades to play guitar with Queen. He finished collecting his final data at the Canary Islands observatory this week.

It's been 20 years since my last astro course... perhaps it's time to get that BS I always wanted... Of course I think he had the ability to take time off and pursue this, being a rock star and all.

When I was at UCLA, there were a bunch of students like that. The singer from Bad Religion did a PhD in my department.

I remember seeing his name on the list of folks present at the first light of that new scope in the Canary Islands. That's pretty cool. I've seriously been considering going back to college and finally finishing a degree. Between the two different majors I had, Architorture and Music, I have more than enough credits to graduate already though I am missing a few core classes. Problem is I don't really want a degree in either at this point. Perhaps a degree in business would be the route to go. I dunnno.

I almost went back to school and did my PhD - had decided to do one when the lure of money dragged me out of college. I thought of going back again when I got engaged.

Now, I am too busy with work to do anything.
