Hey, there are *three* of the particular item you are bidding against me for on eBay. I am bidding on two of them, leaving one available for you. Why don't you bid on the third one that has *no* bids on it right now, so we can both get what we want for cheap?

Or, instead, you can be a dickhead and continue to ignore the third identical item and drive up the bids I have placed on the other two.

I think that's more common than they will admit. You could try bidding on the third one, and see if you get the same behavior.

Yeah, I thought about it after posting this, but it feels good to rant sometimes.

I actually won the item 15 minutes ago for $18 less than my maximum bid, so that was cool.

Maybe I'll bid on the third one and see if it happens again...

when I've had this happen to me and I am not buying up every instance on purpose, I email the bidder directly and let them know. Many times they have no idea, because they just click on the first one that matches, etc. I even made an agreement with a guy as to which ones we'd each bid on, so we each got cheaper prices in the end.
