If you think torture is ok

  • What a nasty set of scenarios. But, I think I might have that brain damage mentioned because in every instance I think the greater good outweighs an individual myself included. I'd kill myself if I knew it would help a whole bunch of other people in a positive way. So... how would a non-brain damaged person respond? As the first poster mentioned, there don't seem to be options for getting away or attacking your captors. I think I'd just go insane not actually taking any action at all.

      That there really is no such thing as greater good? No matter how you look at it, if we go deep enough, we find that the "greater good" always comes back to what it means to us. It will always be personal. It is very easy to twist it into, if man can't live in peace, it is for the greater good that they all must die so there will be no more suffering. It really means ...so that I don't have to see or think about more suffering. These are thoughts that go back to the b

        Looking at your response to the first post. I think I would feel tremendous guilt through inaction combined with the death of both children in that situation. I can't put the blame on someone else without putting the blame on myself for not trying to actively find a better way. But then again I've been told I'm a control freak too, so...

        Interesting point about the "greater good". I guess it's hard to be able to live without there being some ultimate code or authority that all must hold to for some of us
