GMontag's Journal: Shooting like Stevie Wonder

Went shooting yesterday. Three rounds of trap.

14/25; 14/25; 20/25

Was using the Saiga-12, 19" barrel, full choke tube installed.

Also, I knew I would not like self-call devices and I was right. The trap was setup with microphones at each position, that are supposed to launch a clay when the shooter calls. Well, they also launch when a shooter closes the action on a pump or on a semi-auto (I was able to close mine quietly enough usually), when the skeet range next door gets too loud, when someone coughs, etc.

You don't get scored with a miss if a clay launches that you did not call, but it is still a silly distraction.

There are multiple-speaker speech-recognition devices that handle a few words spoken by nearly anybody; they've been around for years. How hard would it be for them to make a device that triggers only when you shout "Pull!"?

You're not Stevie Wonder, I am. I shot a gun I'd never used before -- a fairly new Remington super mag -- and went about 6-for-50.

I am fairly new to trap, only gone a half dozen or so times in the past year. I usually use this nice Beretta over/under, and hit about 50 percent or more.

No, I got that part, just dunno why Ronnie is more appropriate for me than Stevie!

Ronnie does not come across as spry as Stevie.
