Journal HokieSeas's Journal: Question for you intelligent people 3

About 3 weeks ago now I had one of my computers die. Fairly impressively at that. Luckily it was just a spare computer I had here at home that I was using to be able to ftp into work and get CAD files so I could work from nights and weekends and such. Well, it did also have my large music collection on it as well, but that was easily recovered from my iPod, so no big loss there.

But anyway....to the question.

I am giving open office a shot on this computer since the computer only came with a trial version of MSOffice, and I sure do not want to pay for something I don't need when something else can do the job just as well. Or so it can so far. But what I am missing is something comparable to Outlooks contact and calendar information for this WinXP machine.

So what is out there that deals with Outlook style contacts and calendars? I do not need the email function since I use other software for that. Any ideas, suggestions, or comments?

For calendaring, I used Sunbird - it's a Mozilla project and works well with Firefox and Thunderbird. For contacts, I made do with Thunderbird's address book.

Nowdays I've seen the light though and use iCal and Address Book on my Macs. ;^)
    • i use sunbird and thunderbird right now. sunbird has a long way to go before it is ready for prime time, but it is good enough for what i need. the nice thing is that you can give it a spin and if you don't like it, you haven't lost anything but a little time.

How could I forget Google Calendar [google.com]? It's free. It's on the web, so you can access your calendar anywhere. You can easily share calendars with other people. You can view it using Google Desktop. It can SMS you reminders. (US only 8^( ) It can do a heck of a lot actually.
