  • And, according to her, the purpose was to provide high quality wigs for young cancer patients so that if and when their hair fell out during chemo, they had options.
  • Is this some sort of ancient wedding ritual?

My mother sent her hair to somebody (11 inches worth), for making wigs for children with cancer, but I have no clue if it's the same place.

  • they make kids feel like they have normal lives, by giving them an option about whether they tell people that they have cancer.

There are some services like this for adults, my mum and i had a looong conversation about this when the chemo made her hair fall out.

It's really about giving them a choice, not about vanity. It's one less thing taken away from them.

  • But it's to give chicks with long hair a reason to feel all sweet and charitable when they finally get sick of it and chop it all off.

Whether or not cancer patients really need "real human hair" wigs is another matter entirely. It's pretty much covered by insurance, so the whole donation thing is kinda moot from that end, as far as I know.

They could very well be depriving women and men who *really* need to earn money from selling their hair for those wigs.

I wonder if I can grow my hair long enough to donate? Right now it is about a quarter of the way there......

And mines about a quarter of an inch. I go nuts when it gets longer than a whole inch, so I doubt I will ever be donating. That plus long haired guys in court still look out of place. Unless of course its opposing counsel with a combover...

I have gone through every length, from bald to roughly down to my shoulder blades. I prefer bald, but it is a real PITA keeping it "Mr. Clean" bald (I look awesome bald; I don't have a lumpy head :-) ) but usually I keep it really short (like 1/4"). Lately I have been lazy cutting it, and now the SO keeps saying, "but I like your hair longer!" so now I am doomed :-| Plus I never shave my head close when it is cold, because I am guaranteed to get sick when I do (if it starts out short while it is cold I am f
        • Could waxing your head be an option? It's not a very sensitive area so it shouldn't hurt after the first few times.

My very first thought was Homer putting his head into the bowling ball polisher on Simpsons. When he brings his head up his forehead is so shiny it reflects the whole bowling alley;-)

Both my stepkids favor long hair, but I really like having short hair. If it weren't for my SO I'd just keep it shaved down to ~1/4 inch all the time.

I keep having this image of pulling on the wax and having my scalp come off :-D But it would probably work. I wish I could donate my hair folicles to someone else who wants them.

Nair on the scalp is NOT a good idea by the way.......

  • My best friend gave 11 inches to LoL a couple years ago. I would, but there's a minimum length requirement, and my hair isn't that long. :\
  • So I'm going to guess that there's no actual charity, no children with disease that cause hair loss, and that all of the hair goes to a really creepy middle aged man with a hair fetish?

You must realize that the computer has it in for you. The irrefutable proof of this is that the computer always does what you tell it to do.
