Journal NaveWeiss's Journal: You're a cannon (more of Sarit Hadad) 14

Remember what I wrote about Sarit Hadad? Check this flash piece someone made about her. The song she's singing is "You're a cannon" (ata totakh).

-----
Update/explanation: This flash applet has 2 Hebrew texts in it. The first is "yalla!"* which means "go!" (click on it) and the second means "turn off sound". I guess that explaining the joke kinda ruins it. Too bad then. :)

-----
I see I've got a couple of new fans who added me with me writing little or nothing to them, namely gmhowell, heliocentric and TechnoLust. So welcome! I hope you're not the silent type.

_____
  * An "homage" to another well known song of Sarit mentioned in the other journal entry. "Yalla" is actually an Arabic word, but it's widely used in Hebrew informal speak.

  • Guess it requires knowledge of Hebrew to appreciate this particular Flash animation. Either that or my plug-in is malfunctioning again...

Take heart, Nave, Eurovision is always only good for a laugh anyway :) That, and ... promoting European peace and unity. *cough*. Kind of like a mini-Miss Universe that require a modest modicum of talent...
    • Oh well. I thought it'd be obvious. I'll add an explanation in the journal.

Eurovision isn't always funny. It can be very boring too.. and why did you write "Take heart"? Did you mean "notice"?
      • Take heart, as in, it's not that your country's representative is much worse than the others (not too sure actually, will have to try downloading some of the songs and listen to them myself), it's probably just more embarrassing because... it's *your* candidate :p
  • Hehe. You must be new around here. heliocentric isn't quite as verbose, but TechnoLust and myself have what can be described as 'diarrhea of the keyboard' at times.
  • 'Light a candle' and 'Ata totach'. I must confess to not understanding the lyrics, however it does compare favourably to the current manufactured rubbish that hit the charts running in UK currently *cough* Atomic Kitten *cough*.

Although *that* might be a sad reflection on the state of the music industry, and the general populace. Ah well. That's why I don't listen much to the radio! Rachmaninoff, Duruflé, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, that's my cup of tea :p.

Netscape Radio's 'New Acoustic' channel is not so bad as well. Lots of Turkish, Irish, etc. folk songs.
    • "Ata totakh" is awful.. it should have never reached the radio. "Light a candle" is kinda kitchy, but musically it's not too bad.. although not good enough to be a Eurovision candidate. Sarit would die to sound like Atomic Kitten. Their latest cover is actually nice (don't remember what song exactly)..

I can give you recommendations for much better Hebrew songs.. like those by Mika Karni.. Rita.. Rami Fortis and many other.

I'm not familiar with the composers you mentioned.. it's probably classic music, no? I'm not too fond of it, except for the really famous pieces (Four Seasons.. The Barber from seville, etc etc)
      • Rachmaninoff and Durufle are turn of century (last century that is) composers - the former's Russian, latter's French. Rather.. emotional, haunting music.

John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins are jazz musicians - hey, thanks for the recommendation! Will check them out.
