Journal glh's Journal: Google AdSense 2

Just thought I'd put in a plug for Google AdSense. You can check it out here. I got a call the other day from Google saying they wanted me to put some adsense on my user group site. I was kind of surprised they were calling- not the kind of call you expect to get out of the blue (still not sure how they got my number). At any rate, I added it to my user group site and it seems to be pretty slick. Apparently it is a javascript include that pulls in all the text on your page and generates slick little text ads, similar to how gmail and google works. Best of all, I can use any proceeds generated by the ads toward the user group.

Interestingly, I noticed our user group site actually gets quite a bit of activity- we are up to 400mb of pipe this month. We recently added some useful content (such as MSDN aggregated stuff, job postings, etc.) so it makes sense. We are close to about 200 members now, and it comes up first on google if you search for "ohio .net user group". I guess I am pleasantly surprised that it has such an online presence. I suppose I ought to give our webmaster a good pat on the back...

If you have a web site and are interested, it looks like you can also apply on the adsense site.

  • If you get any cash out of it, I'd be interested in how much and such (to see if its worth the while to do it).

How tough was it to install??
    • I've only had it up for a few days, but according to the site (it tells you how many page views, clicks, etc.) I should make anywhere from $40-60 this month (assuming the traffic stays the same, and people are clicking the links. It only seems to pay for links being clicked). I didn't realize the side had the traffic- probably about 50 unique visitors a day. When I send out mailings (usually twice a month) I should probably generate more hits as well.

In an ideal world, it would have taken about 10 minutes
