Journal Xaltlee's Journal: OMG. 10

There's a totally floored look on my face. Logged in today and lo, I have a fan. Wonder when I'm going to get my first freak? By all rights I ought to have one or two already. But, hey foobar104, you're going to get a lot of pestering from me - you've said some things I wanted to debate, but not in a forum full of the usual Slashdotters. (Damn, hey, lookie here, we've got a regular little subcommunity. Thanks, Taco 'n Co!) I'm really looking forward to it. Interesting opinions are what made me add you as a friend in the first place.

  • Bring it on, baby. I'll debate your ass like you've never been debated before! I'm gonna debate you straight into the ground with all my... reasoning... and, uh... arguments, and... stuff. ;-)
    • Heh heh! Goody! Not that I'm normally combative or anything, but you sound like fun. Give me a bit, though - I've got to correct some idiot who thinks Javascript is supposed to be compiled. (It can be, but not the kind he's thinking of.) Whee!
      • You can compile JavaScript just fine. It's just that the compiler generates lots and lots of user-unfriendly errors when you do.

The way to fix that is to enclose the whole JavaScript block in /* ... */. Then it compiles fine.
        • LOL! Naw. You use the JSC compiler with .NET. Essam Ahmed [designs2solutions.com] is my hero with that stuff. He's incredibly good at it, and has even written a book on the subject. Microsoft is too busy supporting C# to treat JS with any dignity, making for a sort of counterculture within the .NETters of JS-fiends who are suddenly amazed at their power to do compiled coding. It actually makes for a good language in that fashion - very tolerant of user errors, and a good introduction to the basic concepts of programming. There are quite a few intelligent people working on the subject. If Mono ever makes it, I'll be ecstatic - and I'll more than likely use .NET to code a few apps I've had the itch for.
  • Post in journal often, peruse comments.pl to find other people's journals (select "referer" to get to the entry instead of just the comments).

I have fans and friends a plenty. Some foes and freaks too. :-D FortKnox and all is pretty much one of the main central hubs on /. right now though, pretty nice community to get involved with. :-D
    • The scary thing is that I had no idea anyone was even reading this stuff. Hey, I'd get a lot more paranoid about posting if I thought about all the eyes that might get it. For now, I'll stay under a fine pseudonym and hope it never comes back to haunt me. :> And hope you people don't get vicious or the like.

I think I'll take your advice and have a look. FortKnox, though? Maybe the term will make sense when I've gone through the paces...
    • Oh wow. That there is my new playground. I'm NEVER going to run out of things to do! (And we all know that's an exaggeration, but right now it seems so true!) Thanks!
      • If you want to stay entertained even more, just start adding everybody even remotly interesting to your friend listing. :-D Spices things up a bit. Add a good +1 or +2 modifier to all friends in your preferences as well.
