I got a gift!!!

User Journal
I'm just beaming, giddy with joy!

The previous journal entry about sending me stuff - I didn't know if it would actually happen, but... Today, out of the blue, I was at work, and the UPS guy showed up with a package from Amazon. Contents: 9.5 inch SCANPAN non-stick frying pan! It's amazing! And to think, I love to cook! This will be used extensively.

I'm just... beside myself with joy. Sometimes, folks, it's the simple things in life that make it that much more enjoyable. Especially since yesterday was a fairly crappy day - my handspring died and I had to reinstall windows, and it's all rainy in blacksburg - so this is... just amazing.

HUGE thank-yous go out from both me and Tess (the first thing I did was call her and tell her about it) to the Harrisons of Colorodo: Your thank you card will be in the mail in the morning, possibly with a picture if I can swing it. And the tag - about the possibility of sending a book instead - yeah. Thanks. Wow.

Happy!

Almost forgot: wedding / baby related

If you have the money and the randomness potential, feel free to send us shit for the baby or for a wedding gift. And I don't mean, buy us a blender and ship it. I am kind of putting this up to see what "random stuff" people may send us. This is for those people who are a fan of Maxim's "Random object from ebay sent to random person".

So, let the humor begin.

ship to:
Netmar, Inc
c/o: Will and Tess Dunn
220 North Main, Suite A
Blacksburg, VA 24060

**ALL gifts, no matter how dumb or small, will be replied to with a thank you card**

---------EDIT-------------
BABY REGISTRIES:
It's not a static page, but go to Target's webpage, and click on "Gift Registries" at the top. Click the radio-button for "Father" and put in the state of Virginia, click search. It should come up with Tess Johnson and Will Dunn, baby due May 27th.
We already got a diaper genie, though.

Here's a link that may or may not work for JC Penny's registry. It's asp, so whatever. From JC Penny's home page (here), click gifts, then baby gifts, then view or buy from a gift, then search for first initial "T" and last name "John". It will come up with several, click on the one that's for "Tess Johnson and Will Dunn" in Blacksburg, VA.

Anyway, there's an easier way to check on stuff!

I'm married.

Well. Here's the journal that I said I'd get around to writing.

I'm married. I got married on March 7th, 2004, in a small ceremony in my Uncle's house in Woodbridge, VA. There were about 18 people there, plus my wife and I. My roommate Matt was the best man, and my wife's sister, Katie, was the maid of honor.

** you've read the posts, now meet the guy behind the keyboard**

My name's Will (as evidenced by the fact that I tend to sign posts as ~Will). I'm 22, and I will be 23 in April. I am a Senior at Virginia Tech, almost done with my Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Classical Studies. As also noted in posts, I work at netmar (www.netmar.com), as a tech. I mean, there's only 4 of us, so it's kind of phone tech support / email tech support / network tech / web developer / sales rep. It's that kind of job, where each person is capable of pretty much doing the entire thing. Anyway, work is not the most important thing in my life, though I do love my job (despite it's querks).

My wife's name is Tess. She is the greatest woman that ever lived. I hate to make all you slashdotters jealous, but my wife loves 1.) Sex 2.) football 3.) beer 4.) video games and 5.) sex. Yes, this means I have found the perfect woman. Oh, and she's pregnant. See previous journal entry for my son's earliest picture poses. Tess and I are thrilled with the fact that we're becomming parents. She's got a degree already from Virginia Tech, in Animal Science, minor in Biology.

Anyway, back to the wedding: BORING. DUMB. Yeah, are they all like this? I mean, shit, we got rid of all the dumb stuff like the person singing, and the big church, and the ceremony. We cut the thing down from like 2 hours or whatever most people take to get married down to, oh, about 12 minutes. And it was still boring.

My right leg was threatening to charlie-horse on me, so I kept shifting my weight as my Uncle (who's an old preacher, ex-navy chaplin or something) read out the whole nine yards. He kept calling my wife Theresa, which bugged the crap out of us, since her name is Therese (2 sylables), but it's our fault since we didn't do enough to make it explicitly clear to him the pronunciation. Eh, whatever, it was written down in his prompter sheet as Therese. Also, he read out those bible verses about wives submit gracefully to husbands, for this is the will of god, and the husband is the spiritual leader of the household. This is a real sticking point for Tess and I, as she appearantly at some point quasi-dated some dude in the Navigators, a well-meaning, but whacked out, prodestant group who believe that the husband is responsible for the wife's soul and that the wife is incapable of anything but bearing children (in a nutshell). Neither of us feel that way, but... we talked about it later. She was like, "Yeah, it kind of bugged me, but I know you don't believe that shit, so whatever". I mean, if you're looking for versus about husbands and wives in the bible... Other than ruth and 1st corintians, you're pretty much scrounging.

But, yeah, the whole 9 yards of getting married is *totally* for the REST of the family, and not for the two people getting married. I know if you're not married, you've probably heard it, but here's my advice or whatever: Marriage is not a big deal. Seriously. Tess and I already knew we didn't want to leave each other, we knew what we wanted out of the relationship, and we had reached the point of no return (or whatever) long before we decided to get married. So, marriage is *NOT* a big deal, if you approach it from the standpoint of someone who is already madly in love with your girlfriend. All it is, is a way to let the rest of your family see that stuff.

Yeah, so anyway, my aunt (wife of the guy that married us) is all running around, asking us if last minute stuff that she set up is ok, when we hadn't talked about it before... so I was all, "whatever, if it makes you happy". Oh, and another thing... I wasn't nervous (more on this in a minute), that is until EVERYONE in virginia decided to ask me "Are you OK?". Yes, I'm fine, and I swear to god, if you ask me again... etc.

The reason I wasn't nervous is that I was hungover. Crazy hungover. My roommates matt and adam (it's the two of them, plus tess and I in a townhouse here in blacksburg) took me out to a bar in fredericksburg (Hard Times Cafe - casual atmosphere, lots of pool tables, long bar, decent prices - it's on Rt 1 near the stafford bridge). Well, I don't remember all of it, but there were, let's say, 3.5 of us, because my friend chris green showed up (not to meet us, just randomly) and joined us 1/2 way through the night. So between the 3.5 of us, we appearantly had 8 pitchers (!??!?) of miller lite, and I additionally had 2 shots of whiskey, 2 shots of tequilla, something green, and "Christo's Magical Forget Juice", i.e. a Jagerbomb (Jagermeister dropped into redbull). I don't think I was carried out of the bar, but it must have been close. So, anyway, yeah, for breakfast on my wedding day, I had about 4 advil and 4 Tums. I woke up at 10 AM (wedding was at 3, and an hour away by car, and I needed to be there early...), and was still drunk. I passed out on my brother's couch.

My brother, by the way, is really cool. He's younger than me by 3 years. He's had some tough times in his life, but he's pulling his stuff together and making something of himself. He's got a real job now, and a couple of nice cars.

Anyway. So, we're married. We go to this resturant in Woodbridge that's supposed to be blow-my-ass good, but it's just so-so (my prime rib was cold by the time I got 1/2 way through). I'm always on a search for premium quisine, though, so whatever.

So we go on a honeymoon. Tess is like 6 months pregnant, so we don't go anywhere too far (Just to washington DC). Actually, my brother's limo took us up to DC and dropped us off. That's one of his businesses, he owns 1/2 of a used $15,000 limo, and they give rides to businessmen and teenagers for prom, etc. It was cool, cause I'd never been in a limo before. But, yeah, we were dropped off at our hotel, the Carlyle Suites. I gotta tell you - if you're looking for a good hotel, this one is great. It's cheap, for a DC hotel ($169 first night, I think because it was a weekend, and $129 the other 3 nights? something like that, it ended up being cheaper than the website said). The room had a king size bed, a couch, glass-top coffee table, and a desk (free ethernet), plus a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, 2 stove burners, and sink, dishes were in the cabinets. It was great. Plus, it was 3 blocks from Dupont Circle, on Connecticut, I think. Everywhere we went, we just walked the 3 blocks to the Metro, hopped on, and went (you can get pretty much anywhere in DC that you'd want to go on the Metro).

First day, we went to the national aquarium (lame - a collection of fishtanks, not bigger than 200 gallons, down to about 15 gallons, and 2 alligators) and the National Zoo (we don't give a crap about pandas, but other than that, great). At the zoo, I saw several Bison, which is cool, because my thesis paper for my senior seminar is on the "Buffalo Commons" idea. We also spent a good bit of time in the primate house and the reptile house. We have an iguana, so we're pretty reptile friendly. They have 2 Grand Caymans Iguanas, which are critically endangered due to feral cats and habitat loss. Very cool. Of course, they're not going to mate, because they need large social groups, so taking these two away is kind of... bad, but whatever. What's done is done.

Oh, I almost forgot - I like food (i fancy myself a pretty good chef), so I have to mention this: At the Adams Morgan / Zoo metro stop, right outside of it, there's this FANTASTIC itallian resturant. I think it's just called Resturante Italliano or something. I'll have to post after I get my pictures developed. But, seriously, BEST ITALIAN FOOD i've ever had in my life. In fact, it might be the best food I've had in my life. The cheese ravioli that tess got had a white cream sauce that was amazing. Great stuff.

Next day, we went to the Natural History museum. We got kind of a late start, cause we were sleeping in. We actually did a lot of relaxing on this trip. So, anyway, Natural History museum, and we saw the 3D Imax thing about dinosaurs... which made tess motion sick... which befuddled me, cause she can usually ride any rollercoaster on the planet, and calls me chicken for not wanting to die. Whatever.

Next day after that, we started late again, and we hit some more of the Natural History museum, as well as the Frier gallery. I got all excited in the frier gallery because they had an exhibit on Islamic world art, and I'm in 2nd semester Middle East history. But, I almost lost my shit when I saw, just hainging casually on the wall, a big freaking round plate. Nothing special, just ancient writing (ancient farcee?) around the edge. The impressive thing was the inscription which, according to the wall mounted translation said that the plate had been made to commemorate some battle or other that Artaxerxes had won. Artaxerxes was the son of Darius I and grandson of Xerxes, all three of them kings of Persia. Xerxes and Darius were the kings who waged the Persian Wars against the greeks (remember this from history class? Battle of salamis, thermopalye, marathon? yeah, those guys). It was awesome.

On a tip from my brother, who is knowledgeable about where to get the best of anything as long as price isn't a factor, we went to the District Chop House, near the MCI center. We dropped $120 on dinner, including tip. However, amazing food. They have their own brewery, so I tried two different beers (both excellent - the pale ale and the dark lager both rocked). I got the special, a 22oz ribeye with sautee'd onions and red and yellow bell peppers on the top - it was simply amazing. Tess got some special that had two little fillet medallions, lump crab meet, asparagus, and a holandaise sauce that, despite everyone's misgivings about holandaise sauce and steak, blended excellently. Fan-freaking-tastic food, good people too.

So, then, that's about it. We get back into fredericksbrug (where we're crashing, it's where my parents live) and hang out with some friends. Then, it's back to blacksburg and I started working on my thesis paper. Pretty busy spring break.

So, now you know. If you read all that, congrats.

God knows why I you are reading this journal, since I swore to myself that I'd never use it, but ...

I just want it known that I don't often mark friends based on content in stories, but I make people who mark me as their friend ("My Fans") into friends.
