Journal twitter's Journal: Dell and HP's Night of the Living SLED?

Since the M$/Novell deal announcement SLED has been thrashed soundly in the market place by Red Hat and Ubuntu. So why is it that Dell and HP have lined up to offer SLED?

Pseudo choice, Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Linux.

No, you can't avoid all of the M$ tax by choosing Ubuntu from your big OEM vendor. Perhaps Microsoft dependence is the reason big HP and Dell are valued less than smaller but more independent Apple. You would think these vendors would have learned their lesson from the Vista fiasco. You can't sell things people don't want to buy.

Outside of M$ market distortion, vendors would offer a real choice of operating systems for every computer. The cheapest option would be "none". Free distributions would be next, followed by those with non free codecs and finally those with things like Windows. "Crapware" games are zero sum and only work by charging tomorrow what they subsidize today. Spyware games should be against the law.
