Dan Ravicher claims Steve Ballmer has intentionally misrepresented his Linux patent findings. Dan is the director of the Public Patent Foundation (wikipeida entry) and their report is the source of the 238 potential patent infringement number used by Ballmer.

Dan Ravicher, says that is not what the report said, and that it did not claim that open source software faces legal problems. "Open source faces no more, if not less, legal risk than proprietary software," Ravicher told technology news site eWeek. "The market needs to understand that the study Microsoft is citing actually proves the opposite of what they claim it does.

Par for the course in a FUD war.

  • Twitter, the original article you linked to in The Register is 404ing. I did find the Ravicher article on eWeek [eweek.com], though. Curiously, it has a byline dated November, 2004. Go figure.
