Journal trmj's Journal: Adventures in Boston (Part 1) 4

So today started out with taking the T to Harvard Square. I wandered about, and found a bike store in Cambridge that I made a visit to.

I looked at some bikes I'd be interested in, particularly folding bikes so I could take it on the T. While I was there, I also picked up a chain for the bike that's been sitting around the place I'm staying at.

Get back from that and start working on the bike. It had been sitting out for 2 years in the weather, so I knew it would need some work. Replaced the chain, filled up the tires, lubed all the moving parts nicely.

While riding around, the front tire decided to fall off. It wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't going quite so fast at the time. Face planted into the concrete, and as a result I now have no skin on my right palm, my left elbow is split open nicely, I can barely move my left shoulder, and I got a concussion.

Owie.

So I'm recovering from that tonight, but I think I should be ok to go to sleep by now, as the concussion wasn't that bad, and I'm not really out of it anymore (when the crash happened, I lost hearing and vision for about a full minute).

As far as the whole job thing goes, well I still suck at updating my journal with any regularity. Applications and resumes got turned in at a bunch of banks and other such places when I got back from Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania also played a trump card in an attempt to keep me there when I intended to leave, but that's a story for another time.

  • I got pissed off enough that I tossed the piece of junk into an arroyo. The chain had come partially apart and gotten stuck in the spokes of the back tire, and I wasn't about to drag the crippled bike all the way back home with all of the injuries that I had at the time. It had already caused me to crash several times before that with its bad brakes and bad shifting. By the time I came back for it the next morning (the crash happened at around midnight), someone else had already taken it.

    The funny part is,
    • The funny thing about this is that I'm going to take this bike to a shop and see if I can get it repaired. I've always firmly believed that if you avoid something just because you had a bad experience with it, then you're a wuss and need to get over it :-P
  • speedy recovery! I had a concussion a couple years ago, so I know they aren't fun. If you get headaches real bad over the next couple days, make sure to go to a doctor.
    • Recovery seems to be going quick well, thanks :)

No headaches, but yesterday it was annoying when immediately after the crash, as a guy was talking to me to ask if I was alright, my hearing and vision just kind of faded out. After about a minute they both came back, but it was rather annoying.

The palm and elbow have cleaned up nicely, and sparing details, I'll just say that they look pretty cool, which is exactly as I'd like it to be. C'mon, if you're going to have these patches of gauze taped to your
