Yes, it's been fun, but it wasn't until recently that I realized how unethical it actually was. Lying to you. At first it didn't bug me that much, but I've become more and more aware of this, and now I just can't take it any longer (some troll, huh?). Can't continue like this. Can't keep "living" in this lie -- and neither can I stay here after what I've done. So I bid you all farewell. Please don't be mad at me...

Assuming another persona online isn't lying - its a common defensive measure, esp. now that the predators have discovered the net is a great place to hunt.

You haven't "done" anything that merits leaving. Maybe you should review the rules - you might find some comfort in them:

The rules:

  1. it's okay to be uncomfortable with something;
  2. it's okay to deal with personal issues in your own time and your own way;
  3. in other words, its the same as in "real life" - there are nice people, and there are jerks; the nice ones will make the effort to understand, the jerks will be jerks. That's why they're jerks.

Gender roles are social constructs, not biological; conversely, gender identity is biological, but doesn't necessarily correspond to biological sex: IOW, life isn't simple, shit happens, yadda yadda yadda.

I see you still have me friended - if you really are leaving, at least stay in touch. Use my real email address.

      Thanks (but it means you must have missed some of the wilder stuff from way back when ... like the 600-post battle between me and onlawn over religion and transsexualism that started with this 258-post thread and just went on and on and on http://slashdot.org/~tomhudson/journal/79828 [slashdot.org] into 3 more entries. Well, actually it started in DaytonCIMs' journal, and we moved it to mine because we were really polluting his :-)

    I think a more generic filtering/ranking system could prevent similar incidents on Slashdot - in case the good guys are in majority which are probably not :-

    I'm just a grumpy old sysadmin. When I was a sysop on Fidonet back in the 1st half of 90's I planned to write a better BBS with user ranking based on "popularity" but n

      There's still a lot of misunderstanding about gender issues, even here on the dot, so I'll be writing a series of entries dealing with:

      • the biological basis
      • what help is available
      • what questions to ask, what answers to expect
      • the "coming out" process
      • how to react to someone coming out
      • advice for friends, family, etc.
      • Whatever else people can thing of to ask ...

      It's a minefield, because its going to challenge a lot of peoples prejudices and/or preconceptions, but pe
