Verizon redirecting Google to some Verizon search 1

Submitted by Jflatnote
Jflatnote writes "Is this the start of more Verizon troubles? I have had www.google.com as the starting page in my browser for years. Tonight, any attempt to get to the Google home page redirects to a Verizon search page that says it is searching google and yahoo, etc. I can get to Google Scholar, but when I click on "web" from that page, I get the Verizon search page again. No matter what I do, it goes to Verizon. Is this the beginning of more Verizon strong-arming?"

Hackers break into private hotel network via VoIP->

Submitted by

whitehartstag writes "Two security experts at hacker conference ToorCon9 in San Diego this week hacked into their hotel's corporate network using a Cisco VoIP phone. The hackers, John Kindervag and Jason Ostrom said they were able to access the hotel's financial and corporate network and recorded other phone calls. The hackers used penetration tests propounded by a tool called VoIP Hopper, which mimics the Cisco data packets sent at three minute intervals and then trades a new Ethernet interface, getting the PC — which the hackers switched in place of the hotel phone — into the network running the VoIP."

AMD's first quad-core processors reviewed->

Submitted by J. Dzhugashvili
J. Dzhugashvili writes "Almost a year behind Intel, AMD has finally released its first quad-core processors. The folks at The Tech Report have put together one of the first reviews of the new chips, with a host of benchmarks to boot. Chips that were tested include not only the new 2GHz quad-core Opteron—AMD's current fastest—but also a 2.5GHz preview chip that demonstrates how the new architecture scales with clock speed. The results are mixed: while AMD's new quad-core offerings are competitive overall, it looks like the company will have to work hard to keep up with Intel over the coming months."

TAMU hacked?

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Now that we at TAMU have 1 ID (login) to rule them all we can be happy that our personal data is more secure....not. The story is here, and everyone is getting notices that look like this:

"Regrettably, a recent attempt was made to gain unauthorized access to encrypted electronic data, and as a result, a number of Texas A&M University NetID passwords may have been compromised — including yours.

While the security violation was quickly identified and stopped, we believe it is important to take all necessary steps to ensure that everyone is fully protected from unauthorized use of their private information. Therefore, as a precautionary measure to protect your privacy, you are required to change your NetID password immediately.""

Be free and open and breezy! Enjoy! Things won't get any better so get used to it.
