Journal spoonyfork's Journal: Best Buy sucks 2
My oven died two weeks ago. It was 15 years old and came with the house so I didn't expect too much from it. I went to Sears and all they had were cheapo $300 and big blingin' $3000 models in stock. I do a lot of cooking so I wanted one ASAP. I went down the street to Best Buy.
Short story long, I bought a $600 model and paid for delivery ($30), disposal of the old ($15), and installation of the new ($80!). The next day the delivery person's work order did not have the disposal or the installation so he did neither. I ended up bribing him $5 to take the old one away. I called Best Buy's corporate headquarters (couldn't get through to the actual store) and they had no record of the installation other than the sales receipt. They said that if I came and picked up the necessary new gas line cable they might be able to get some one out there later that week to install it.
I ended up installing it myself -- not a big deal but gas hookups kinda freak me out. I wrote Best Buy a letter detailing my discontent and a request to have my credit card refunded the installation and disposal fee. It was CC'ed to the store manager delivered with return receipt requested so I know when they got it. It has been two weeks and no reply. You'd think the shit would have rolled down hill by now.
I'm thinking that I'll have to file in small claims court to get my money back but I don't have any experience with that. What I want to do is send out sharks with fricken laser beams after them.
UPDATE
I did file suit in small claims court and got the money for the installation, disposal, and hose back (US$125). It took two trials (they never showed up to either) and they kept trying to get me drop the lawsuit with gift cards of increasing value. They ended up paying what they owed and both my court costs (another US$50). Bitches.
I never mentioned the $50 mail-in rebate. I never got the rebate check. After several months, I called the company handling the rebate and they said that the check had been sent out and already cashed. I asked for a copy of the cashed check in writing three times (return receipt requested) and I never received a copy of the check or acknowledgement of my issue. Three separate phone calls to the management of the rebate company kept telling me to request in writing again. Well, after three times I gave up. Easy $50 for them I suppose. Bitches.
Credit card? (Score:1)
Re:Credit card? (Score:2)
Yes, a credit card was used. I tried this route with my chair mats when they were delivered to the wrong address. My credit card company (while they did credit my card immediately) did quickly take the money back with a note saying go get the money yourself. It is my experience that the credit card companies only take up the cause if some kind of fraud is used with the card itself. I had a travel agency I've never heard of charge me $300. My card company went to town on them. In the Best Buy case the card w
