And what about the actually important issues, like full PNG compatibility, and actually following the w3c standarts?

Oh, wait, sorry, yes. Microsoft would rather follow a trend and make the majority happy, while leaving out the people who are actually in trouble because of the current versions of IE.
The webdevelopers! Are they even thought of? Will we ever be able to develop a great website design without having to "hack" our CSS in mysterious ways, thereby invalidating our CSS validity?
