So Windows OS goes walkabout occasionally.

If your data isn't corrupted you're probably not looking at anything worse than a "last best configuration" or an OS re-install.

Imagine you've got a critical project due immediately and the web goes tits-up (as does around here occasionally).

Unless you're well backed up locally, you're hosed.
