Journal pudge's Journal: The Daily Show Sucked Last Night 4

TDS spent the first segment of the show talking about 'Rathergate,' and didn't actually do any real lampooning of CBS. Stewart said one of the panelists should be wearing a press hat, Rather was not fired even though the 'gate' was named after him, and Andy Rooney has bushy eyebrows.

The rest was just using this news event as a vehicle to bash Bush and Fox News.

They deserve bashing, but this was a huge event in the news business, a catastrophic failure of one of the preeminent TV news organizations. If TDS cannot actually lampoon CBS intelligently over this, then what good are they?

[Insert charges of liberal media bias here.]

  • Seems like a failure to use all potential sources on their part. Even the other fake news shows, Konan, Leno, and Letterman take advantage of the situation and poke CBS News. May be those shows are more opportunistic? Or may be Stewart is a bit more choosy about his targets? Who knows. If you watch the show you see that TDS does not swing to the center or right of center, so there should be no surprises here.

that Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, which owns CBS.
  • Pudge, sometimes your journal is good in that I can say "Whew! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that!"
  • Hum..... Let me try to disassymbal this some.

    Lack of lampponing for CBS

    Segways for Bush/Fox bashing.

Feelings that TDS has low value.

I was hoping to see some comedy about the BaseBall 100% zero tollerance, which isn't very zero'ish.

I say that in terms of TDS, don't set your expectations too high.
