Journal pudge's Journal: How Many Debates? 9

The Democrats are attacking Bush for supposedly wanting only two debates, dropping the third debate proposed the CPD.

In 1996, Clinton wanted only two debates, and dropped the third debate proposed by the CPD. FWIW.

How Many Debates?

  • When a democrat only wants two, that's because Republicans are evil.
And when a Republican only wants two, that's because Republicans are evil.

    Sheesh.
    Some people are so dense.

BTW, considering the format they were considering for the third debate, Bush is right to cancel it. It would be a disaster, considering how classless the liberals have been behaving.
    • Well duh. See, republicans are evil.

Geez. Florida swings towards Bush and is suddenly hit by 3 hurricanes, can't be a coincidence. :-P

All joking aside. It's politics, sit back in your armchair and watch the maneuvering.

I reckon it's God's way of preventing a rerun of Gore's complaints of "My supporters are too stupid to make a hole in a piece of paper": remove everyone that stupid from the scene beforehand. :-)

  • Make the candidates stand up there, and answer striaght unrehearsed questions, no prompters, no ear-pieces, make them stand on their own two legs.

Yes, yes, this is a wild notion, as we all know along what lines the question will follow, but as we can all remeber from high school english, it is all about the nuance, make them actually answer the prompters question, rather than allowing them to go off on some garbage, rehearsed tear.
  • I would prefer more debates, with a variety of formats, so I can see how the candidates react in different contexts. I would especially like to see an all Skulls & Bones debate in which not only the candidates, but all the moderators and audience members are from Skulls and Bones. Now if only Nader had joined Skulls and Bones, he could be in it as well.

In any case, two is too few.

    • I would prefer more, but I can't say that two is necessarily too few. Since Presidential debates have become an quadrennial event in 1976, there have been three debates three times (1976, 1992, and 2000) and two debates four times (1980, 1984, 1988, 1996). I'm not sure I can reasonably conclude that the public was more well-versed in their choices in electing Carter and Clinton and W. Bush in their first terms than they were in selecting Reagan twice, H.W. Bush, or Clinton in his second term.
