If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal.
The best part about this quote is that there is no "Washington Journal" for them to read anyway.

But more often than not, society INCLUDES musicians JUST BECAUSE they're musicians. That's the problem he is speaking to. Blink 182 gets up on a stage and says "vote Kerry! Heck, there are policy wonks who aren't all that well-informed either and people still listen to then.
Don't do something because someone tells you so. However, someone who awakens you to a cause and gives you plenty of information to decide for yourself is worth listening in the future... Rock Star, Actor, Painter, Butcher, Baker, Candelstick Maker, or not.

Reading your reasoning and re-reading the JE, I can kinda see it -- but the topic lends itself to talk about celebs political commentary. 'pianos' commentary (which you cite as bashing Bush) seemed tossed in for emphasis -- but in my opinion it was said in a way that would lead to an off topic discussion.
