Journal pudge's Journal: Let's Spin! 8

Welcome to the new and exciting game show where YOU the contestant get to decide how various events will play in the national media!

You all know the rules. I'll provide something that happens in the world, and you reply to the journal entry (not another comment), and spin it to favor one of the Presidential candidates or political parties. Then the other contestants guess who you're working for! (Also, it is highly recommended that you play "Let's Spin!" by The Swirling Eddies in the background while participating.)

Without further ado, our first category is Foreign Policy.

According to former U.S. State Department North Korea analyst Kenneth Quinones, North Korea "has decided that the 'new offer' proposed by the United States during the third round of talks was a deception trying to cause turmoil in North Korea, and judged that the Bush administration lacks sincerity in the talks. Accordingly, he said, North Korea was revealing a surprisingly level of anti-Americanism and has decided to wait for the results of the U.S. presidential election."

  • Umm... I suck at this. I just happen to find the whole process amusing. So, let me take a guess, they umm, don't want Bush, so we should vote for Bush because if North Korea doesn't want Bush, by god we should vote for him.

Or hey, let me take another crack at it. Bush is a war-monger, so they don't want to deal with him. They want to deal with a far saner and better foreign policy. So we should vote for Kerry, because he's not Bush, and that's a good thing if we want peaceful disarmament of North Kore

First of all, let's talk about economy. The fact that North Korea have suspended their reforms seems to imply that the Party is losing losing control over the economy, and are now trying to regain it.

Does this have anything to do with the other major thread of the article -- that North Korea has put the nuclear negotiations on hold? Yes. They're having trouble with fighting on two fronts, so they have decided to freeze the situation on one of them. The troubles inside the country are obviously more importa

  • N. Korea backed down because Bush said "get rid of Nukular weapons programs or else" and NK looked over at the UN. The UN said "ya! what he said" and so the nukular weapons programs were terminated.

Now NK see's that UN undermined Bush in Iraq war, and is tempted to start things back up because it now see's the UN as weak, and as something that won't back up it's own resolutions.

    It's my first time, how'd I do?
  • I thought long and hard on how to spin North Korea's situation for a presidential candidate, and so I came up with this: (Note, this is best played to that classic 80's song, You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) [stlyrics.com], because it's peppier.)

You know, even as the Bush administration has worked to isolate North Korea in a campaign to make it drop its nuclear program, Asian and European governments have been actively engaging it on diplomatic, cultural and economic levels. Now, with the pace of engagement quickening,

    • Argh! Like North Korea in world diplomacy, I didn't realize how pudge's game worked. I'm reading all the comments thinking everyone is being serious...so I put my foot in my mouth posted a serious comment as well. My comment was so out of line that even the Chinese delegation is shaking their heads at me. Crap! I am such an idiot. I'm dumber than Kim Jong Il.

I should have dropped my last paragraph. You can't edit comments...can you pudge? I mean, if Kerry wants to ban a book that didn't play by t

  • I think it's telling that this administration has managed to alienate not only France an Germany, but now North Korea as well. This is a delicate situation that requires sensitivity on both sides in order to broker a peaceful solution.

I'm sure if the administration thought there was oil in North Korea, they wouldn't be so disengenous as to offer concessions! In fact, I can't even tell you what I would do, because the North Koreans would respond so drastically different to my policies that a comparison woul
