  • South Park AND Mark Russell? Why would they be mutually exclusive? Both are good.

I've been watching Russell since before Real People. Damn funny guy. One of the few poltical humorists who doesn't strike me as partisan and/or totally mean .

Feel free to enjoy both. Maybe add in a little Howard Stern for flavor...
  • Russel, yes. Southpark, no. It is similar to Ausin Powers II and III (look, a sex joke. Wait, here comes another sex joke. Um, do we know anything besides sex jokes?).

With Southpark, the humor comes fast and furious. It's just the same joke over and over again. They're as original as a knock-knock joke. If you want something truly funny and animated, stick with the Simpsons. Yes, they're not as funny now as when Conan O'Brien was writing for them, but they're still good. Of course, it's not as fu
    • I don't think you've watched Southpark lately. The show is at a whole new level of sophistication compared to when it started. Look at the episodes this season such as "Goobacks", "The Jeffersons", "The Passion of the Jew", and "Up the Down Steroid". There seems to be a movement towards genuine social commentary and a lot of it is made under the radar. You have to be paying attention to catch all of it & I like that in a show. I can see how it will eventually come off as preachy, but for now it is enjo
    • South Park is so much more than sex jokes. South Park is the most biting satire on TV. I readily concede it is sometimes hard to take because it is disgusting, but that's a very small part of what South Park is. Saying South Park is all sex jokes is like saying The Simpsons is all about being rude. Note that both use the same vehicle for describing how bad they aren't: The Simpsons has Itchy and Scratchy, and South Park has Terrence and Phillip.
      • Apparently I was not as clear as I wanted to be. I only meant that Austin Powers was sex joke upon sex joke. Similarly, Southpark is just crude joke and crude joke (and not just limited to sex). Regardless, ho hum. I work at a high school - I overhear the same thing all day from students and it's boring. And, incidentally, the Simpson's aren't about being rude (which I know you didn't say, exactly) - the story lines and subplots are hilarious. When's the last time Southpark had more than one subplot
        • Similarly, Southpark (sic.) is just crude joke and crude joke

Again, no, it is not. Again, that's like saying the Simpsons is just Bart saying "eat my shorts" and Homer drooling. It's fine to call it crude -- it is -- but to say it lacks depth or that it's the same thing every week (whereas the Simpsons is not) is just ridiculous. And it's never been that way.
          • but to say it lacks depth or that it's the same thing every week

"Oh my God! They killed Kenny!" -- "You BASTARDS!".

Nope... not the same thing every week.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. I thought South Park was great the first 3 or 4 seasons. I catch an occational episode now. It still yanks a good belly laugh from me at least once a show but I no longer consider it worthy of stealing 20 some odd minutes a week from my time. I give myself no more than 8 hours of TV a week and 5 of that is news. I do reco
