I wonder what they would do if you told them part of your platform was anti-spam, and that if elected, you would work hard to fine or imprison them?

Tasty spam, pudge. I've worked in campaigns before, and these phone centers actually do make a difference. I've never seen spam from them before, however. Finding help in some ridings is quite difficult, and if the money's there, sometimes spending some money can make the difference -- if it's handled correctly (delicately). I'd have to say that only party members should be phoned, from the voters list, because then it's targeted. Members often expect such calls, and welcome them.

I know first-hand of a company that was looking at getting into this business. Potentially it's a nice profitable business. Having lined up a supplier and some of the relevant technology, they went on their first sales call to a politician (a US Congressman) that they had a good connection with. The idea rapidly met with stiff resistance. Apparently the congressman tried it a couple years ago and faced so many calls to their office that they didn't entertain the thought of ever doing it again.
