Journal pudge's Journal: Fred Thompson 4

OK, just so you know, Fred Dalton Thompson was a Senate campaign manager, lawyer (co-counsel to the Watergate committee), and lobbyist for a long time before he was a professional actor. He started acting when he played himself, as a lobbyist, in a movie about the S&L stuff in the mid-80s.

He had more experience in DC politics than most of the Republicans running for President, even apart from his eight years as a Senator (he was elected to finish Al Gore's term when Gore became Vice President).

To attack Thompson for being an actor makes even less sense than when people made the same attack of Ronald Reagan when he ran for President.

  • Especially in light of the fact that he's STILL an actor and not currently running for any office!

But we can hope, can't we?
Out of the current field of announced, exploring, and rumored candidates, Fred Thompson has the most appeal to me. The rest I'm either somewhat lukewarm about, or I flat out don't like them.

What I've read and heard about Duncan Hunter [gohunter08.com] sounds good; I think he'd do a good job. Chuck Yeager says he's a stand-up guy, and the Donks wouldn't be able to level their inane and baseless "chickenhawk" complaints against him (he doesn't remind everyone about it incessantly like some recent candidates I could name,

        • I'd much rather vote for either of them than for "Rudy McRomney." I'm tired of voting for muddle-headed RINOs as the lesser evil; if I wanted someone in office who acts like a Democrat, I'd've voted that way.

Agreed. I have a favorable opinion of Sam Brownback, as well. But I'm lukewarm about Gingrich, and I flat out don't like McCain.

Romney seems to be running to the right, but he's got a liberal streak in him, and Guiliani is pro-infanticide, so there's no way I'd vote for him in the primary.
