Journal pudge's Journal: Wha -- ? 11

Our military has been in Iraq longer than in World War II, World War I, longer than the Vietnam War.

--Senator Ted Kennedy, on Fox News Sunday yesterday

For the record, our troops have been in Iraq for going on four years, since March 2003. Our combat troops were in Vietnam from approximately 1965-1975, about ten years.

Maybe he meant the Korean War.

Don't you see? The truth means nothing in the face of all of this! Swiftboaters! All of you! Fake but accurate! can't you see the nuance in Kennedy's point! Facts have no meaning unless they look like hockey sticks! Sean Bell!
  • Don't we still have troops in Germany and Japan? Maybe we should pull those home first...
    • Wow, you took an opposite approach from my reaction but still reached an insight. I was thinking that I didn't know that the US had stationed any troops in Iraq during WWI, WWII, or Vietnam, and so that therefore, since they're there now, they've been there longer...
    • That is exactly what the Iraqis see. We've had troops in those countries forever. Iraqis see an ongoing occupation that will never end.

Maybe so... But that's not exactly the point being made. Kennedy spoke incorrectly.
        • I agree that wasn't his point. But I see very few people trying to imagine what the situation might look like to your average Iraqi, and that is a bit of conversation that needs to happen.
  • How does one with such poor math skills become a senator?

It's topics like this that need the moderation "+0 Sarcastic."
