Journal pudge's Journal: Super Bowl Prediction 3

Last year I picked the exact score of the Super Bowl.

Stop your genuflecting.

I had the advantage of knowing the Patriots team extremely well. This year, well, not so much. I know the Steelers pretty well, though not nearly as well as I know the Pats, and despite living in the Seattle region, I don't know the Seahawks well at all.

But there are a few things I know. I know the Steelers have a slightly better passing game. I know the Seahawks have the decided edge in running. I know I fear the Steelers defense more, but on the other hand, they tend to give up some big plays.

Big Ben is prone to some error, but on the other hand, he's only lost to three teams, and two of those he ended up coming back to beat in the playoffs, the Colts and Bengals. (He remains 0-2 against the Pats.)

In the end, I think the Seahawks won't be able to contain the many Steelers weapons. So I am picking the Steelers to win, 28 to 24.

  • I think the Seahawks wouldn't beat the top 6-7 teams in the AFC, since my poor NFC has been waning in strength over the last 5 years or so.

    Steelers 35, Seahawks 17
    • I wouldn't go that far. The seahawks would be a good challenge to the broncos and especially the bengals (who don't have a run defense).

      Here's the jist, though:
Passing: Steelers. Ben has been red hot and Matt Hasselbeck is also good. But the receiving corps of Pittsburgh is much better than Seattle.
Running: Seattle. Definately have a touch of an edge on the running attack. However, the Steelers are the #2 or #3 run stopping defense.
OL: Even. Both have Probowl left sides.
DL/LB: I would give an ed
      • I mostly agree with that, except that the Steelers can choke with the best of 'em.

OK, not as well as the Colts and Broncos, but still. Ben can throw up some bad passes if he gets rattled, and the Pittsburgh D is better, I agree, but more prone to getting burned on the big play, which Seattle is pretty good at.
