Journal pudge's Journal: Worst Tagline 9

"You're in The Situation Room: where news and information from around the world arrive in one place at the same time."

Yeah, um, Wolf: that's what I call "television." Or "computers." It's not really interesting enough to make your show's slogan.

  • I have already alerted Karl Rove that you are not watching the approved news network. [foxnews.com]

Do I need to stress the importance of viewing only the approved news network?

The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (VRWC) requires all members to be in lock step. I have reported you, and you should do the right thing and take your re-education seminar seriously.

    :)

OK, now that I've played out THAT stereotype of conservatives... Why watch CNN at all? The bias is awful on that channel - for example, the economy added a lot o

    • Ahem! Karl Rove is not the prefered nomenclature, Darth Goebbels, please.

Seriously though, I just watch News Hour and The Daily Show. News Hour is generally damn good journalism, and TDS is great satire. I can't take any of the opinion shows like The Factor, Hardball, Crossfire, etc.

Publications: I read Foreign Affairs, The Economist, the New York Times(gone waaayyy downhill in the past few years, but still decent), and the Washington Post.

      Name the Vast Conspiracy!
      • You mean NewsHour. One word. They were doing doublecaps before Apple even existed! And yeah, that is where I get most of my news, except local news. But during the day, NewsHour is not on. :-)

TDS is just annoying. The other day I saw a commercial for Nancy Pelosi coming on, and it said, "she's not male, and not crazy!" or somesuch. Can you ever imagine them saying "he's not crazy" about any Republican leader, other than McCain? They may be satire, but they are also terribly and obviously biased again
        • Shrug, I like TDS. On occasion it's brilliant(the "sweet sweet Iraqi black" bit was absolutely brilliant). On other occasions, not so much. Colbert Report started exceptionally strong. Now it's weakening. "The Word" segment is still worth tuning into though. It still beats everything else they've had in that timeslot though of course that's not saying much.

The "so of course the democrats put up someone proven to be able to beat George W. Bush", flash to kerry, "WTF is he trying to say!?" bit last ni
          • Stewart is almost always a teddy-bear in his interviews

For conservatives, not so much. Which is a big part of the problem. He'll have a Bush critic and author on and let the guy just say what he thinks, but when someone like Stephen Hayes gets on to defend the administration, he gives him the third degree.

Oddly enough, I don't find Mahr or Miller amusing anymore, even though I used to.

Miller's a different subject, but Mahr has much of the same problem as TDS: when he realized people were listening to him,
            • I would disagree on Mahr. He simply isn't funny anymore, and his format is a large part of it, as is Miller's. Miller's smart-assed routine doesn't play well so long as he restricts himself as he has been. He plays off like Buckley trying to satirize, and while I like Buckley, that's just not funny. Mahr otoh plays off like Chomsky trying to do satire and that's even less funny.

Stewart has kinda become like Mahr was in the heyday of Politically Incorrect. Left-leaning but still worth tuning in to.

              • I am not sure why you disagree on Mahr; I agree, he's not funny. :)

As to TDS, I agree there too, and I have by no means given up on it, but I simply have stopped watching for now. When they become the dancing monkey again, maybe I'll tune in again. Maybe when the Democrats win and they have less to bitch about. But not right away because then they will be too smug. :-)
    • During the day, CNN is the best at just saying what is happening. Not great, and I don't watch it a lot, but if I come downstairs to eat lunch, or am waiting for some news to happen, that is what I turn on. My second choice is MSNBC. Fox News is the worst.
