People recognize that's absurd, but if you use the reverse argument, people accept it. The reverse is this: We should do things to create jobs, because creating jobs is good. Politicians, in particular, love to do this. Spending a lot of tax money on creating jobs, is something they boast about.
We ought to nuke a major city, because of all the healthcare and construction jobs that it would create. It would be good for the economy!;-)
