Journal pudge's Journal: "Blogging" / New Music 5

I am sick of the self-important navel-gazing that is "blogging." Today on CNN, I watched in horror as their "Blog Reporter" reported on a group of "bloggers" that is having a conference call for the mainstream media ("blogcall") to inform the media as to what they are "blogging" about. I wish I could have made any of that up.

I've wanted to record this old Randy Stonehill song "Christine," because I think it is funny and because I think that with a few small word changes it says a lot of what I think about "bloggers." Without further ado: Christine.

  • I haven't listened to Randy Stonehill since highschool. His new album has Phil Keaggy on it. May have to check that out. Will definitely go home tonight and give Sunday's Child a spin.

Yeah, Keaggy is on a few songs. It's a really good album. I have most of Stonehill's stuff, and maybe half of Keaggy's. I can't say which are my favorites, but Sunday's Child and Edge of the World are both way up there. I especially like the first two and last songs on Edge of the World.
      • I'm more of a hard rock guy. So the stuff I have outside of that is usually the stuff everybody has-- Sunday's Child and A liturgy, a legacy and a Ragmuffin Band. (but I picked up tons of mullins stuff when I got married)

But the bulk of my listening is The Choir, Steve Taylor, Newsboys, Mortal and such. I stopped buying CDs in the early '90s and it shows. I pulled out my old Throes Cd the other day and played their cover of C is for Cookie for my 2 year old. He loved it.
    • Wow, that brought back some memories. My dad is a big Phil Keaggy fan, and we went to a Phil Keaggy/Randy Stonehill concert where they did a cover of a Beatles song.
      It was awesome.

I was young at the time, and I remember being insensitive about the international children's outreach he was promoting... my dad set me straight on that one. :)
  • I guess one reason why the big media are so excited about blogging and bloggers is pure narcissism: it must be quite pleasant for them to gaze into the "blogosphere" and see a small (albeit slightly distorted) image of themselves staring back at them.
