    I am by no means a fan of all parts of the Patriot Act, and I can say that I have actually sat down and taken the time to read parts of it. My intention here isn't to comment on what I do and don't agree with, it's about observations of the discussions surrounding it.

    One observation I have made regarding comments attached to articles about the PATRIOT Act is that its loudest supporters or detractors are usually the ones who haven't read a word of it. I have heard

      It's redundant. Where it's not redundant it's excessive. Where it's not excessive or redundant it's useless.

      There really isn't much NEW stuff in it.

        This is why, in addition to your humouring my zombie obsession, I enjoy your online company. I will be in Waltimore DC for a few months, and we have got to meetup.

        If you *do* run down the origins of that quote (only if you happen across it--don't go out of the way to find it, though), I would love to know who said it. It's very to the point and better said than I. I would like to use it, but would like to know to whom I should attribute it.

  • I grew up in a household that was a cross between far-right wing politics and this weird, conspiratorial libertarian politics. I heard a lot of this growing up. Now, whenever I heard people start saying that I'm not a citizen of the United States, or they start talking about lowercase u's vs. uppercase u's, I have to just laugh and walk away.
