+ - Ask Slashdot: "Blue Sky" I.T. Projects?

Submitted by

MattSausage writes "We have a rather sudden "Blue Sky" meeting of the I.T. department later this afternoon. Basically the idea is that we suggest ANY idea that might be useful, cost is not a factor, feasibility is not a factor. Obviously I realize Slashdot can't come up with ideas tailored specifically to my workplace, but I'm interested in some new or particularly exciting ideas that will either help I.T. do what we do, or that will help the users do their jobs using technology. I work for a local water/electric utility if that helps with any ideas.

I'm just interested in ideas, thought of no better place to go than /."

University of Florida student Zachary Garcia was more than a little surprised to find out he was wanted for murder after Googling his name. It turns out the police were looking for a different man but had mistakenly used Garcia's photo. From the article: "Investigators originally released a driver's license photo of Zachary Garcia — spelled with an 'A' — but it was Zachery Garcia — spelled with an 'E'— who was charged in connection with the crime."

reillymj writes "Researchers claim toads sensed a severe earthquake last year five days before it hit. Last spring's L'Aquila earthquake devastated the medieval city of the same name in Italy. Five days earlier, a group of biologists noticed some toads behaving strangely in a pond nearby that would later be the quake's epicenter."
