Journal nizo's Journal: Slashdot has stolen at least a day of my life! 6
I recently noticed that I have posted 754 comments in response to various articles and journal entries. If I took two minutes per comment (an incredible underestimate I am sure) that amazingly adds up to more than a day of posting comments! This is of course not counting the time I have spent just reading or creating these braindead journal entries.
This leads me to wonder, how else do I spend my time? First of all, I want to say I hate analyzing the way I spend me time, because that inevitably leads me to think, "Wow, am I wasting my life away or what?" So rather than go down that self-deprecating path, maybe I will instead concentrate on how I am not wasting my life (in comparison to other Americans for example):
- I have short hair that I cut myself (ugly buzz cut). Half an hour every few weeks and zip zap it is short. I figure I save piles of time by not having to wait to get it cut, plus I don't spend time combing it and all that crap.
- Reading vs television. I used to watch waaaay too much TV. Now I watch about 2 hours a week, plus maybe 4 hours of movies per week (which adds up to over 5 days a year, hmmmm). Instead of staring at the TV like a zombie every night I have started reading more. Even though it is mostly sci-fi crap it still seems better than watching TV. Video games are down to maybe an hour or two a week (some weeks none and others more, kinda comes and goes).

I did the radio thing for a few months before I started doing audiobooks, been commuting for four years. Since audiobooks are so expensive to buy I've gone through almost every library in the towns between home and work. I also downloaded a good number of books (shhh don't tell anyone). I'm a big musi

Spend way too much time waching the television shows that other members of my family want to watch.
Yet, I get value from all of this. I learn things on Slashdot that I probably wouldn't notice elsewhere. Time I spend online is usually in persuit of something I want to learn, or in persuit of edutainment.
