Don't know why this got rejected as I thought it was (more) interessant (than all this LOTR hype)...
Here it is anyway...
According to the BBC (but also to others, thanks to Google News), Alias Wavefront, editor of the well-known Maya 3D edition software, is about to get an Oscar for its technical contribution. For its 75th edition, Oscars will also be given to camera equipment manufacturers Arnold and Richter Cine Technik and Panavision Inc. The celebration will take place on March 1st, 2003, 3 weeks before the official Oscar ceremony.
