Journal mercedo's Journal: The Golden Pavilion II
I read his ten novels, not all, but so I can tell something about his works.
His any novels are actually not novels, he was not a good novelist. His novels lacks proper time span, integral character of heroes, ambiguity of what he wanted to insist on in his works. But it was not only limited to his works, many other works of other Japanese writers also severely lacks those features above mentioned.
The only conspicuous feature Mishima holds and the feature that distinguishs from other Japanese ordinary writers is his poesy. His works are conglomerate of solemn aesthetic world if you considered him a poet -excellent poet rather than a novelist. His works ought to be re-evaluated as a masterpiece of poetic works rather than novels. He was not good at story-telling but succeeded in building a solemn world of beauty in words.
His works are indeed the Gold Pavilion itself.
