Journal mcgrew's Journal: Nerd City -- A Cartoon 4
The headline reads "Local 'Nerds' most viewed in MTV contest".
Matt Hartzler and Jake Giganti co-produced the video, "Nerds in Disguise," which was selected as one of five finalists in the Pepsi Rock Band Music Video Contest.
If their video earns the most online votes, Hartzler, Giganti and their eight collaborators will win a free trip to the video music awards ceremony in New York on Sept. 13, as well as the Moonman trophy.
Voting continues through Tuesday (Sept. 1).
As of Thursday evening, "Nerds in Disguise" was the most watched video in the contest with more than 40,800 views - 2,800-plus views more than the next highest-watched video -- since the finalists were announced.
"We're optimistic" about the viewing numbers, said Hartzler, who appeared in the video and also served as director and editor. "We just don't know how it's going to translate into votes.
I'd been impressed several years ago when I was posting the Paxil Diaries at K5 and found out that the people in the stories were fans, and hadn't even realized that I was mcgrew and they were the ones being written about! Springfield is full of nerds, it seems.
Another local story caught my eye -- Four arrested after fight
Police arrested four men after they allegedly threatened each other with pipes and bats Wednesday night.
The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of South 13th Street. Arrested were Norman T. Rooffener, 49; Joseph V. Hamilton, 38; Ronald M. Houser, 42; and Benny T. Southard, 37; all of whom live on that block. Police said Rooffener and Hamilton live at one house, and Southard and Houser at another.
Police received conflicting reports from the four about who started the altercation, but an independent witness told officers all four were armed and equally responsible.
A police report said the four have been involved in an ongoing dispute and that officers had been there to deal with it several times in the past month, including six times during the two days prior to Wednesday night's arrests.
I imagine after he gets out of jail, Houser will change his name to Quaid and move to Mars.

Sorry this video is no longer available.
Hey, do you know what the dispute was about between the two sets of dudes?

No clue; all I know is what they printed in the paper. I saw "Hauser" and thought of a movie everyone has surely seen. sjaskow got the joke.

It appears I read too much into all this. Here I thought you were actually dropping clues about your home town.
With your hint and a rereading, I did get the Arnold joke- it rose out of the mists of time before I saw what sjaskow wrote.
Quaid? (Score:1)
Um, it took me a while to figure out the joke. Then I remembered that governator's character in "Total Recall" is Douglas Quaid and I LOL. :-D
