Journal johndiii's Journal: Warren Zevon, Dead at 56 5

One of my favorite artists, he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer last summer and given only three months (IIRC) to live. He survived for more than a year, and managed to record a final album, The Wind. Worth buying, if only for the redition of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. His witty and irreverent style, and his dark humor, will be missed. His obit is here, and his web site is here.

Goodbye, Warren. Thanks for the music.

Update: Here's a better link for the news (thanks to DaytonCIM).

Update II: Hunter S. Thompson's May 2001 tribute to Warren Zevon, reissued by ESPN.com.

Warren Zevon, Dead at 56

  • I think a proper job in writing the obiturary should be done by Hunter Thompson [warrenzevon.com] If anyone ever really understood the man it was HST. That CNN piece was, well so typical of a media that just didn't get it.

    • I'd expect to see something from HST fairly quickly, though I'm not sure where it would be. You're spot on about the CNN/AP piece, but it does give the bare facts.
  • First, I make a joke about 'Werewolves of London' a week ago. Then, day before Zevon dies, I read a review of that album. Kooky. Now where's that black cat...
  • but when i saw the headline, the first thing i thought of was the "stephen king, dead at 55" troll. maybe i've just been here too long.
    • Yeah, I thought of that too, but then I thought that it might be the kind of thing that he would have appreciated. He's not dead, it's just the trolls...
