Journal jawtheshark's Journal: California Here I come!!! 9

Dear Audience! (I suppose some crazies read the stuff I write from time to time), I am here to tell you that I will leave for a few weeks. No, I'm not sick, and not there is no special lady involved. Nope, I'm on holiday and I will do a trip. Normally during my holidays I stay at home and enjoy a few beers on our terasse at home, chatting deep into the night. My online presence stays constant, and nobody actually notices I'm not working ;-)

However this year is different. My brother wanted to go on vacation and found noone to go with him. He asked me. Well, I don't always get along well with my brother but I could not refuse since few people want to spend their holidays with me. I accepted. He wanted to go to some caribic island for a week. You know the style: sleep in the sun all day and party in the night. This clearly is not my style (as andr0meda can confirm, remember Scotland, mate?)
So I played smart and told him: "what if we'd go to the US". The United States are his long time dream, he talks about it since he's nine or so (he's my bigger brother for the record). He never ever went there yet, however. (I was in Florida because I won a trip with a local brewery) Of course my brother readily accepted (hehe). But where in the United States? Simple: he had the Golden Gate as a windows wallpaper for ages (not anymore though) and so I proposed San Fransisco. That's the whole story of how I got there. I think that if 11/09/2001 hadn't been, I'd have proposed New York.

After informing myself, I planned a complete trip (National Parks, etc) and about 4 days of slack that we will use to go "roadmovie style". You know, drive and see what happens. Probably direction LA, and then back up the coast to SF. That part of the trip is just "we will see". Oh, and we rented a cabrio :-P Hey, I have to keep standards...I'm used to my Audi TT. What will be hard, however is keeping speed limits. Why do you Americans have to be so strict, eh?

Oh, well... It will be fun! We are both excited!

Oh, and I made one sad person: Jennica...my online girl. She is from Ohio and really was disappointed that I didn't come to visit her. I partially promised her to visit her at Thanksgiving (now that should be an experience), but only if finances allow it. I should talk about her someday in my journal, don't ya think? She is one special girl... :-)

  • Hey, if you want to meet up with some fellow geeks, you should join us at the sf2600 [yak.net] meeting on Friday, June 7th.
    • That's unfortunately the day I leave. It's only two weeks ("a few weeks" sounded better). And now it's time to shower and dress...I have a plane to catch....

      Uuuuhhh...coffee...
First time ever that I post from my bed.... *sigh*

    • I love Venice Beach - My personal fav. in Cali. You will enjoy. I do have friends there should you want to hook up with some cool peeps!
      • I didn't like Venice Beach.. it was kinda empty and almost all the stores were the usual tourist traps. But maybe it was the wrong time? It was about 1-2 weeks after 9/11. I definately took the wrong time for a tour.. I didn't want to go, but my friend insisted because we planned it long ago.

Damn.. what a waste. I hope my next tour will be more interesting.
  • Say, who's Christine Watkins?

It's been a business doing pleasure with you.

Working...
