Get an Apple AirPort base station.
Buy two external 500GB HD's and plug em in to the AirPort.
Run Leopard and use Time Machine to back up to your network drives.
Works soo sweet.
I've never been canoeing before, but I imagine there must be just a few simple heuristics you have to remember... Yes, don't fall out, and don't hit rocks.
