Use One Search Across 6,000 Government Websites->

Submitted by
gubm
gubm writes "Accessibility has never been a strong point for most government websites and searching for a specific government-related service across government owned websites is similar to finding a needle in a haystack.
Most citizens do not know which website to visit to access or register for a particular service. What if you had a single interface to query all government-related information, and the search was as effective and simple as using Google for searching content on the Internet.
While this is not currently possible, if the government's plans to use the Google Search Appliance take shape as per plans, your search for information will no longer be cumbersome. The Google Search Appliance, which now has the capability to index as many as a billion documents, will help in indexing the thousands of files scattered across different government agencies."

Is Wire(less) Secure?-> 1

Submitted by
gubm
gubm writes "A recent survey by Deloitte and the Data Security Council of India, found out that 86 percent of wireless networks are vulnerable. Though industry solutions are available to enable robust security, only a small percentage of Indian enterprises are aware of standard best practices. Prior to the Delhi and Ahmedabad bomb blasts, terror e-mails warning of the attacks, were sent through unsecured Wi-Fi connections. This attack set the cat among the pigeons, with several companies telephoning companies in the security solutions space, to help them secure their wireless connections. However, it is clear that even after such a startling case, vital lessons have not been learnt."

gubm writes "The inclusion of local business, maps, videos, product search in google web search has been a big boon for online businesses. I don't know if most of the people in the seo industry have discovered this or have been able to take advantage of this opportunity. Inclusion of your business in the google local business centre increases your chances of making it to the top 10 in local search results without spending too much time on website optimization. Though keep in mind that you cannot get in top for each and every keyword. But surely it's the fastest way to get in the top 10 search results in Google. Just search for the keywords where Google throws up the local business results. For example keyword "website developers" which has a competition of 285,000,000 shows up the local business results in google.co.in. Get your business added in google local business, include keywords in your company name and if things go right for you, your listings will be in the top 10 search results for a keyword with huge competition. The same procedure implies for products also. I did it for my website www.girishmore.com and my listing is on the first page for keywords seo consultant mumbai & seo specialist mumbai without working hard for the rankings. Easy and smart way to get in the top isn't it?"

Indian IT Industry Puts Up Brave Front After Obama->

Submitted by
gubm
gubm writes ""Outsourcing is not reversible," so claimed Barack Obama in June 2008. When he delivered the speech, Obama was a democratic presidential candidate, who is now the US President. Obama rightly observed then that his nation's challenges on the economic front could not be overcome by building 'protectionist walls'. After nearly a year, it appears that he has succumbed to populist pressures.
Obama recently said that many US firms were exploiting loopholes in US tax laws that made it attractive for companies to create jobs in low cost countries such as India, rather than create them in the US. The current law in the US states that "any income that is earned outside the US is not taxed until such time it is brought back into the U.S.""

gubm writes "When companies build "green" data centers, they usually do whatever they can to make the building, facilities, and computers more energy efficient. However, a European hosting company is taking things a step further in a new data center in London.
Telehouse Europe, a subsidiary of KDDI, announced last month that it will build a $120 million, nine-story, 200,000-square-foot co-location facility in London, on the site of the former docks of the East India Co., and that it's planning to use the excess heat generated by the data center to provide heat and hot water to neighboring homes and businesses."
