Journal geoswan's Journal: Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day

About two months ago a persistent fellow started to reply to just about every post I made. You can see from his posting record that he responded to dozens of messages of mine.

His comments started off uncivil and accusatory, and never really got any better, except temporarily. Initially my replies to his posts were civil, even though his were rude. He escalated his accusations, accusing me, among other things, of supporting terrorists and attempting to "dishonor America", render US forces ineffective.

I found his discussion style both cowardly, deceitful and grandiose.

Cowardly because he refuses to be pinned down on the areas where his expressed views are contradictory or ambiguous.

Deceitful because he seems ready to advance points he knows to be false.

Grandiose because he seems to think he is some kind of genius, yet most of the time he can't even manage to be coherent.

As an experiment I tried responding to his accusations in a less civil manner. He complained that I asked leading questions, rather than come right out with an accusation. So, I took him at his word, and responded in kind, to a limited extent. He complained about that too. But, more importantly, I didn't find it satisfactory.

So I started to compile that list of his posts. It contains some really vicious views.

Marla Ruticka, he concluded, was a terrorist sympathizer, merely for trying to compile a list of civilian casualties.

Mr Hawk argued in favour of torture -- and he didn't stop with torturing people who were known to be involved in terrorism. He was willing to torture people who were merely suspected of involvement in terrorism.

What I have told Mr Hawk is that he is welcome to post any civil comments in my journal. I will do my best to give a civil answer to any civil question posed to me.

Now even a stopped clock is correct twice a day. Mr Hawk may, accidentally post a question worthy of an answer. Unless he demonstrates that he can be civil I think I will leave all his comments unanswered. A link to this JE will be my answer.

However, if some other correspondent, who is able to engage in civil dialogue wants to repeat any of his accidentally worthwhile questions, I'll happily engage in a dialogue with them.

Variables don't; constants aren't.
