Journal frankie's Journal: The Difference Is: I'm Not Lying 2

"It's important for the President to be credible with Congress and foreign nations." -- GWB, 2000 Oct 11

Even though I'm a registered Republican again, I have a campaign slogan suggestion for a bold Democratic candidate. Bush Jr successfully cast Gore as a liar in the 2000 campaign, so why not turn the tables? It's pretty simple: memorize and re-use as many actual position quotes as possible from the Bush 2000 campaign, then append "The difference is: I'm not lying when I say it" .

  • Personal Freedom: "I believe privacy is a fundamental right, and that every American should have absolute control over his or her personal information."
  • Pollution: "establish mandatory reduction targets for emissions of four main pollutants: sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury and carbon dioxide."
  • Gay marriage: "The state[s] can do what they want to do."
  • Medical Marijuana: "I believe each state can choose that decision as they so choose."
  • Foreign Relations, 1: "Building a durable peace requires strong alliances, expanding trade and confident diplomacy."
  • Foreign Relations, 2: "It's very important to be patient with the peace process. To be diligent and patient. It's very important not to impose a US solution."
  • Foreign Relations, 3: "I just don't think it's the role of the United States to walk into a country and say, we do it this way, so should you."
  • Foreign Relations, etc: "I don't think they ought to look at us with envy. It really depends upon how our nation conducts itself in foreign policy. If we're an arrogant nation, they'll resent us. If we're a humble nation, but strong, they'll welcome us."
  • Ministry of Peace, 1: "We must be selective in the use of our military, precisely because America has other great responsibilities that cannot be slighted or compromised."
  • Ministry of Peace, 2: "Ours should not be the paternalistic leadership of an arrogant big brother, but the inviting and welcoming leadership of a great & noble nation."
  • Ministry of Peace, 3: "I think our troops ought to be used to fight and win war. But in this case, it was a nation-building exercise. And same with Haiti. I wouldn't have supported either."
  • Ministry of Peace, 4: "Even the highest morale is eventually undermined by back-to-back deployments, poor pay, shortages of spare parts and equipment, and rapidly declining readiness."

Before a Bush fan chimes in with "that was before 9-11", I say "so what?" We knew all about Al-Qaeda already. Clinton tried to blow up Osama in the 1990s. Bush Sr hired Osama in the 1980s. Turning the USA 180 degrees on foreign policy indicates either malice or incompetence. You claim he's incompetent, and in most cases I would agree, but not about our "new Pearl Harbor".
