Journal fractaltiger's Journal: Multiple WinXP Workspaces

This is meant as a footnote to my "Re:Multi-tasking" post for today. Go here if you wanna see it. Last night I was working with the virtual desktop manager that I downloaded from the windows XP powertoy section. It seems alright, but here is why it is not quite there / buggy:
  1. For some obscure reason, the workspaces were different but all the windows remained on them. So I could not hide some in one to work on some in others. The golden rule of computing applies here: Obscure bug, but if it happened once, the code guarantees that it will happen again.
  2. It takes valuable space on the taskbar. It can be reduced to an icon, but then you have to click on it and wait for the *slow* animation that shows all workspaces.
  3. If disable the icon, then you cannot switch workspaces at all. Warning: Explorer will crash if you try to use the (Windows-Key) + [1-4] combo to switch.
  4. Lastly, it sucks that you cannot specify workspaces like in Solaris (and probably Linux) so that windows that I opened BEFORE starting the workspace manager will be pushed to different workspaces at will. IE: I have to close programs and open them again after switching to where I want them.

Ok, that's all for now.

Every nonzero finite dimensional inner product space has an orthonormal basis. It makes sense, when you don't think about it.
