Journal eglamkowski's Journal: recipe of the day 3
Still more slow cooker goodness, this time with some Kielbasa & Napa Cabbage. This is a great recipe for me, since I'm mostly polish descent and my wife is chinese. Polish sausage + chinese cabbage
1 lb. Kielbasa
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 small head Napa cabbage, coarsely shredded
2 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
salt to taste
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
2 cups chicken broth
Cut the kielbasa into 2 inch chunks.
In a crockpot, arrage alternate layers of sauage with onion, cabbage, and apples.
Sprinkle with salt and caraway seeds and add broth.
Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or until cabbage is tender.
Serve with a slotted spoon to drain off liquid.
If you're wondering to serve with a polish meal, try rye bread and dill cucumbers for quick and easy sides, and maybe some mashed potatoes.
Other, more involved choices, include pierogis and maybe some borscht if you want a soup.
And be careful about yer kielbasa. Those in New York or Chicago won't have any problems finding the good stuff, but the rest of you.... Find a polish deli if you can, or find an importer (on the web is probably easiest) and get some straight from Poland. And don't even THINK of going with beef or turkey or anything other then pork

Two actually, one 5 quart and one 4 quarter, so I can cook two meals at once
Actually, the 5 quart is a fairly squat oval and the 4 quart is a tall circle. So I use whichever one best fits the shape of whatever I'm cooking.
