Journal eglamkowski's Journal: recipe of the day

Here's a vegetable side dish for you. Although this is Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, you can really use the sauce on just about any vegetable. Things like steamed bok choy and asparagus immediately leap to my mind, though I haven't actually tried it on them. If you do experiment with other veggies, let us know what it this sauce works with! And more importantly, which ones it doesn't work with....

2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white malt vinegar)
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon peanut oil
4 scallions
1/2 teaspoon minced peeled ginger
1 garlic clove, minced (or more... :-)
4 cups broccoli, sliced into 2" pieces and steamed until tender-crisp

In a small bowl, whisk the oyster sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, cornstarch, sugar, sesame oil, and 2 tablespoons water until smooth.

Heat up a wok and add the oil. Once heated, add the scallions, ginger and garlic and cook until the scallions are softened, 3-4 minutes.

Add the broccoli and cook, tossing lightly, for 1 minutes.

Stir in the oyster sauce and cook, stirring gently, until the sauce thickens and coats the broccoli, about 1 minute.

Serve immediately!
