      This guy takes "moron" to new depths. Did he think the guns were for target shooting, the explosives are for real high-octane fireworks displays, and the tanks are just for extreme off-roading? Maybe he thought those precision guided bombs and missiles were for digging foundations when you need a building right now?

  • I see no reason for this kind of thing with an all-volunteer army/marines. The guy could be dumb, as you suggested, or very inexperienced. Did he go to college? I doubt it since he's 19. Maybe he's never been away from home before.

    Or it could be simply he cannot stomach the idea of his being killed. I clearly cannot respect that. I mean, I think there are several guys in the services who doubt the wisdom of this war yet know their duty and are doing it well.

  • I've often heard politicians suggest that people who joined up for the military/reserves did so because they were poor and needed a job and an education. They seem to use this argument for not going to war. This is a rather stupid argument IMHO. However, I admit I'm uncomfortable with the fact the affluent or even the middle class rarely enter the military and have to go to war. This wasn't true in the past as in the American civil war or WWII. People from all classes joined the military for these wars
