Ahhhhh, Wilco. If you haven't heard Yankee Hotel Foxtrot yet, you really, really need to. It's just about the greatest album ever, after OK Computer. The album's name comes from a shortwave transmission recording from The CONET Project. There's a sound sample at the end of track 10, "Poor Places". The clip is just so great that I had to find it. After much searching, I found the entire 4-disc set of recordings available on MP3 right here.
The Yankee Hotel Foxtrot clip is just called "phonetic alphabet nato", so it took me a while to find.
So, why would I care? I spent several hours avoiding homework to find this because I was just getting bored of my old voice mail notification and needed a change. After a little cleanup, it sounds great, and colleague and co-worker alike wonder what the heck that noise is. :-)
