We take your privacy "seriously"->

d2d writes "Searching through data breaches for keywords can be fun. Search datalossdb.org's Primary Sources Archive for "seriously", and see how cliche it is. Search for "we have no reason to believe", and get sick some more. Searching for "SQL Injection" comes up with some interesting results as well. See if you can think up more."

Oldest Data Breach: Dispensary records "Purloi->

Submitted by

d2d writes "The conclusion of an OSF contest to find the "Oldest Data Loss Incident" has uncovered some gems. From a 1903 Asylum "Dispensary" where the records were "Purloined", to the 90,000,000 records TRW (spun off into Experian) lost in the mid 80's. Seems "Purloining" of personal information never really went out of style, did it? See them all here, from oldest to newest."

Data Breach Notices Hint at Proverbial Iceberg

Submitted by d2d
d2d writes "The Data Loss Database has released a new feature: The Primary Sources Archive, a collection of breach notification letters gathered from various state governments as a result of data breach notification legislation. The documents include breaches that were largely unreported in the media, many of which are significant data loss incidents. This lends credence to the proverbial iceberg, where many incidents never break the surface. Now, thanks to the Open Security Foundation, we can 'dive' for them."

OSVDB 2.0 RELEASED-> 1

Submitted by
jkouns
jkouns writes "When OSVDB was first released it was Slashdotted and the site was brought down quickly leading to a new vulnerability being added to the project — SlashDotted Targeted DDoS which did upset some of the horde.
OSVDB 2.0 is a complete rewrite of the previous system using Ruby on Rails instead of the previous PHP-based system, and provides substantial performance and reliability improvements for both developers and researchers. Can the site hold up this time? Full details here."

No-Vacation Nation

Submitted by tired
tired writes "The Christian Science Montior reports that 'Almost 1 in 4 Americans have no paid vacation and no paid holidays, according to the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, D.C. In a new report, "No-Vacation Nation," the group notes that the US remains the only advanced country that does not guarantee workers a paid vacation. By law, Europeans have the right to at least 20 days of paid time off per year. Some countries guarantee 25 or 30 days.'"

Site highlights privacy/dataloss breaches->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "New site, etiolated.org, takes data-loss data from attrition.org DLDOS and makes it searchable, graphable, with some pre-canned statistics. Their tagline, "Shedding light on who's doing what with your private information.". One statistic on the site shows "Records Lost/Stolen Per Year Per Second", and for 2007 so far it's almost 5 records per second. Worth a look."
